Breastfeeding

QUESTION: So what’s so good about

breastfeeding anyway?

ANSWERS:

  • It saves time and money

Breast milk is FREE!! Formula can cost as much as $1000 a year.  You will save time

                                    shopping,preparing, and washing bottles.

  • Easier night feedings

You can rest while lying down in the bed to nurse your baby. Breastfed babies can develop

a sleep pattern similar to their mother, so mom is less likely to be

                                                   woken up while sleeping.

  • Delays menstrual period

Having a regular period again depends largely on frequency of nursing.  Some women

resume their period as early as six weeks after birth. While others may not have their

period until breastfeeding has been ceased.

  • You can get back into shape faster

Oxytocin is the hormone that causes the uterus to contract back to pre-pregnancy size

and slows down the flow of blood after childbirth. Breastfeeding burns over 600

calories a day! One day of exclusive breastfeeding equals 2 hours of exercise.

  • Less sickness and disease

It’s true! Human milk is one of the best protections against disease. Breast milk contains

living white blood cells that kill bacteria and produce antibodies. This will help your

baby’s body fight off germs which can cause them to become sick.

  • Less allergies and colic

Breastfed babies are less likely to develop allergies and colic.

  • Easier to digest

Breast milk contains more of a protein called whey protein which is easier for your baby to

                                              digest than formula.

  • Helps the baby’s brain to grow.

Breast milk contains taurine which is essential for brain growth. The human brain needs

to grow more during the first year of life than the rest of its life.

  • Always warm and ready!

Always 98.6 degrees and doesn’t cool off during feeding

.  Better jaw and teeth formation

Breastfeeding uses more muscles which encourage proper facial development. Breast

milk doesn’t decay teeth because it doesn’t collect around the teeth while the baby is

                                                                     sleeping.
